Ron Hornaday Talladega Superspeedway Advance

10/25/10

SUPERSPEEDWAY SEARCHING: Four-time Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday has four starts at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, but has yet to score a win at a superspeedway despite coming close in 2008 at Talladega when he finished second to Todd Bodine.

LAP LEADER:  Of all the tracks on the current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule, Hornaday has lead at least one lap at all but three of the tracks.  The 47-time Truck Series winner has yet to lead a lap at Iowa Speedway, Pocono (Pa.) International Raceway and Talladega Superspeedway.

STELLAR STATS: Although Hornaday has yet to record a win at Talladega Superspeedway, he has completed 378 of the 380 laps attempted, giving him a 99.5% completion rating.  On top of completing 99.5% of the laps attempted, Hornaday has spent 292 of those laps running in the top 15.  The only other driver who has spent more laps in the top 15 at Talladega is two-time Talladega Truck Series winner Todd Bodine.

Notes from the Professor: Quotes from Ron Hornaday:
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT WHERE KEVIN HARVICK INC. IS AT WITH THEIR SUPERSPEEDWAY PROGRAM?
“I think judging from how well we ran this year in Daytona, we have come a long way.  I know that everyone is constantly testing and trying to make their Superspeedway trucks the best they can be.  Since we only race at those types of tracks twice a year, it is hard to justify pouring lots of money into just two trucks, but I think our fabrication department has done a good job keeping up with the trends when it comes to superspeedway racing.  I know the best truck I ever had at Daytona was the one I ran earlier this season.  If we had been able to avoid that wreck we would have definitely been in contention for the win. “

WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO YOU TO GET YOUR FIRST SUPERSPEEDWAY WIN?
“It would mean everything for me to check that accomplishment in my career off the list.  Like I have said before, I’m racing for trophies, and to have one from Talladega or Daytona would mean the world to me.  I’ve always wanted to get a win at Daytona because that place was really special to my dad and it would just be a great accomplishment for me.  But, I think if you want to put yourself in a class with the Pettys, Allisions and Earnhardts then you have to have been able to win at all types of race tracks, including the superspeedways.”

YOUR “BOSS” KEVIN HARVICK IS REALLY GOOD AT THESE TYPES OF TRACKS.  DO YOU GO TO HIM FOR ADVICE?
“I’ve talked with Kevin a lot about this type of racing.  He is always a good one to get advice from.  I’ve tried to take what he has told me and apply it.  It’s a little harder to do than you might think. The Cup cars and the Trucks are quite different, but a lot of the tricks and the characteristics of the track do translate.  I just hope I get the chance to celebrate with him in victory lane.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 33 E-Z-GO team will bring chassis No. 038 to Talladega Superspeedway.  This chassis last competed at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February.  The truck has been completely rebuilt following a lap 31 accident during the season opener where Hornaday finished 27th.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last weekend at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway, Hornaday scored his first career win at the 0.526-mile speedway.  Hornaday passed Kyle Busch with 11 laps remaining in the 200-lap event to record his 47th career victory.
