Ron Hornaday Gateway International Raceway Advance 7.12.10

07/12/10

NOT THE ONLY WINNER: Ron Hornaday is not the only KHI employee to roll into victory lane at Gateway (Ill.) International Raceway (GIR).  KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick and Hornaday’s spotter, Rick Carelli, have also been to victory lane at GIR.

Carelli won the inaugural Truck Series event at Gateway in 1998, one of four career Truck Series victories for “The High Plains Drifter.”

Harvick first visited victory lane in the Nationwide Series at GIR in 2000 to score his first-career win in the series.  He returned in 2001 to become only the second back-to-back Nationwide Series winner at GIR.  In 2010, Harvick returns to Gateway International Raceway in the No. 2 Chevrolet Silverado to join Hornaday as his teammate, looking to record his first Truck Series win at the 1.25-mile oval.

TWO-TIME: This weekend at Gateway International Raceway, Hornaday looks to become the track’s first two-time Truck Series race winner.  Hornaday recorded his first win at the 1.25-mile oval in 2008 where he dominated the event leading 113 of the 160 laps.

POLE WINNER: Hornaday is second on the Truck Series all-time pole winner list with 25 pole awards.  There are only 11 tracks on the current Truck Series schedule where Hornaday has not earned a pole award and one of those tracks includes this weekend’s venue at Gateway International Raceway.  In the past three Truck Series races held at GIR, Hornaday has started the race from the outside pole position.

LAP LEADER:  Over the last four Truck Series races at Gateway International Speedway, Hornaday has led a total of 323 laps, more than any other Truck Series competitor.

SEASON-TO-DATE: According to NASCAR’s Loop Data Statistic thus far in 2010, Hornaday leads the categories of drivers fastest on restarts and fastest while in traffic and he only trails points leader Todd Bodine in the Driver Rating category, which is calculated by combining the following categories: Wins, Finishes, Top-15 Finishes, Average Running Position While on Lead Lap, Average Speed Under Green, Fastest Lap, Led Most Laps, Lead-Lap Finish. The maximum points a driver can earn is 150 per race.  Hornaday currently has a driver rating of 108.00 compared to Bodine’s 111.10 rating.

Notes from the Professor: Quotes from Ron Hornaday:
LAST SEASON AT GATEWAY YOU DOMINATED THE RACE, BUT ENDED UP IN THE GARAGE BEFORE THE EVENT WAS OVER.  DOES THAT AFFECT YOU GOING INTO THIS WEEKEND’S RACE?
“Last year was just that; last year.  At my age I can’t remember last week, much less last year.  The one thing I can remember is that we ran really well.  Gateway is one of my favorite places to go on the schedule.  It will be a little different this year going there in July.  I’m not sure how that will change the track, but it probably will change it some.  I’ve always had good trucks at Gateway and I’m sure since Kevin [Harvick] is in the No. 2 truck this weekend we will be talking a lot about set-up and lines.  I really can’t wait.  I love one-day shows too.  We get everything in all in one day, so it’s a lot of fun.”

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 33 Charter team will bring chassis No. 037 to Gateway International Raceway.  Chassis No. 037 has not competed yet in 2010.  Last season Hornaday drove this truck at New Hampshire Motor Speedway where he earned a second-place finish.  The No. 33 team also used this truck in 2009 at Phoenix International Raceway where the team clinched the 2009 championship with a fourth-place finish.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: Last weekend at Iowa Speedway Hornaday and the No. 33 team recorded a 24th-place finish after being collected in a multi-truck accident on lap 113. The No. 33 truck sustained heavy front-end damage, but was able to make repairs to the damaged Chevrolet and finish the race.  Hornaday did manage to move up one position in the point standing sitting third 191 points behind leader Todd Bodine.
