Pre-Race Reports | XFINITY Series | 06/27/11

TWO CARS, ONEMAIN FINANCIAL: At Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway this weekend, OneMain Financial will be on board not only the No. 2 Chevrolet Impala driven by Elliott Sadler, but also the No. 4 Chevrolet Impala piloted by his team co-owner, Kevin Harvick. The duo, both competing for Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI), will be sporting the colors of OneMain Financial in an effort to promote the new brand of the organization.

BACK ON TRACK: Harvick will be back on track in the No. 4 OneMain Financial Chevrolet Impala during the Subway Jalapeno 250 presented by Coca-Cola at Daytona International Speedway this Friday. The two-time series champion has made 17 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the “World Center of Racing”. Harvick has captured two poles, one victory, 12 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes. He has also led 215 laps at the 2.5-mile facility.

KHI’S FOUR HORSEMEN: KHI will field four entries in Friday night’s race with Nationwide Series championship contender Sadler in the No. 2 OneMain Financial Chevrolet, KHI co-owner Harvick in the No. 4 Chevrolet Impala, Clint Bowyer in the No. 33 Menards Chevrolet Impala and driver Tony Stewart in the No. 9 TapouT Chevrolet Impala. These four powerhouse drivers have compiled an impressive set of series stats including 44 starts, seven poles, eight wins, 26 top-five finishes, 31 top-10 finishes and have led 542 laps at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 4 KHI team, under the command of crew chief Chris Carrier, will utilize chassis No. 050 this weekend at Daytona International Speedway.  This chassis has yet to compete on track, but has been through wind-tunnel testing.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: The No. 4 KHI Chevrolet Impala last competed at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway during the Aarons 312 with KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick in the driver’s seat. Engine issues early in the race relegated Harvick to a 39th-place finish after starting the race 11th and climbing through the field to the lead.

HARVICK’S THOUGHTS ON DAYTONA:
What are your thoughts going into the Nationwide Series race at Daytona?
“It’s is going to be interesting heading into the race at Daytona because there are so many factors that play into your success at this track. Racing Daytona in July is a lot different than racing there in February. The track gets hot and slick and the handling characteristics become exaggerated. With the new racing surface you also need a good drafting partner. KHI is fielding four cars for this race, so finding a partner shouldn’t be too difficult. I’m excited about our chances of success at this race, not only as a driver but as a team owner.”

Why are you excited about running the OneMain Financial car at Daytona?
“OneMain Financial is officially launching their new name on July 1, and it’s really cool to be part of their brand launch. OneMain Financial has been a great partner for KHI this season with Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 Nationwide car. Between Elliott and myself I’m hoping one of us can take OneMain Financial to victory lane.”

THOUGHTS FROM THE PIT BOX: CREW CHIEF, CHRIS CARRIER
How do you feel about returning to crew chief duties in the Nationwide Series?
“There is a lot of added pressure heading into a race with a Sprint Cup Series driver who is used to winning, not to mention when that driver is the boss. I’ve worked in the Nationwide Series in the past with drivers like Dale Earnhardt and Harry Gant and found success so the additional pressure doesn’t bother me too much. I’m confident about being at Daytona with Kevin Harvick because we have a great team and great equipment, which is a major key to success in any race.”
