With finishes of 9th and 22nd, it’s a bit of a surprise to see Kevin Harvick as the points leader after two races this season.

Stage racing completely changes how points are given out and Harvick has been the greatest beneficiary of it.

The driver of the No. 4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford has earned 39 points in the first four stages of the season with three wins and a second-place finish in the other.

After Harvick grabbed his first stage win in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway last Sunday, his crew chief Rodney Childers was presented with a trophy for winning the stage.

While it wasn’t the trophy Harvick wanted for winning the race, it was a pretty sweet trophy made from an M61 cannon, polished aluminum wings, and a folded American flag.

As the Monster Energy Series heads to Las Vegas for the Kobalt 400, Harvick aims to take home the big prize at the end of the race but he’ll keep having solid points days if he dominates at the end of each stage.
