Harvick to Start 5th at Kentucky

Pre-Race Reports | NASCAR Cup Series | 06/27/14

Qualifying Results

• Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team will start fifth in Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 after posting a lap time of 29.016 seconds and a speed of 186.104 mph in Friday evening’s qualifying session at Kentucky Speedway.

• There were three rounds in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying at the 1.5-mile track. Harvick’s run in the first 25-minute round put him 17th and the team advanced to the second round. In the next 10-minute session he ended up eighth and advanced to the final round where the starting lineup for the top 12 was determined. Harvick’s final qualifying run put him fifth on the starting grid for the race.

• Brad Keselowski scored the pole award for Sunday’s race with a lap time of 28.603 seconds and a speed of 188.791 mph. Joey Logano, Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin and Harvick complete the top-five starting positions.

• Teams had two practice sessions on Friday to prepare for qualifying and the race. The No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet team focused on improving the car’s handling in race trim for the majority of both sessions. Harvick made one mock-qualifying run at the end of final practice, which put him eighth on the speed chart.

Harvick on his qualifying effort at Kentucky Speedway:

You ended up in the top five in qualifying. How important do you think that is going to be for tomorrow’s race? “I think it’s going to be pretty important. We’ve kind of battled – and I think everybody has battled – just a tough race track to get ahold of, get over the bumps and make your car turn and do all the things it needs to do. We didn’t have a great first run, but they made it better every run and wound up with a top-five start. I think that is a great improvement for our Budweiser team.”

The following is the starting position of the other SHR teams in Saturday's race:

• Kurt Busch and the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet team will start ninth.

• Danica Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet team will start 10th.

• Tony Stewart and the No. 14 Rush Truck Centers Chevrolet team will start 13th.
