Harvick to Start 13th at Daytona

Pre-Race Reports | NASCAR Cup Series | 07/04/14

Qualifying Results

• Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet SS team will start 13th in Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 after posting a lap time of 45.347 seconds and a speed of 198.470 mph in Friday’s rain-shortened qualifying session at Daytona International Speedway.

• NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams were able to complete one of the three scheduled rounds of qualifying at Daytona before rain halted the session. Since all 44 teams were able to complete a lap in round one, the starting lineup for the race was determined based on those lap times. Harvick completed a total of eight laps in the session, the sixth of which put him 13th on the speed chart.

• David Gilliland scored the pole award for Saturday night’s race with a lap time of 45.153 seconds and a speed of 199.322 mph. Reed Sorenson, Landon Cassill, Bobby Labonte and Jimmie Johnson complete the top-five starting positions.

• Due to rain, teams had only one practice session on Thursday to prepare for qualifying and the race. Harvick made two short runs to make sure there were no issues with the No. 4 Budweiser Folds of Honor Chevrolet.

Harvick on his qualifying effort at Daytona International Speedway:

“Qualifying was a better spot for us than it would have been if we had gone on practice speeds. The new qualifying format is great. It is probably not 100 percent refined for superspeedway racing yet though. It was a definitely a chess game, but it worked out okay because our car is still rolling.”

The following is the starting position of the other SHR teams in Saturday's race:

• Tony Stewart and the No. 14 Bass Pro Shops/Ducks Unlimited Chevrolet team will start 12th.

• Danica Patrick and the No. 10 Florida Lottery/GoDaddy Chevrolet team will start 29th.

• Kurt Busch and the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet team will start 40th.
