Harvick Finishes 30th at New Hampshire

Post-Race Reports | NASCAR Cup Series | 07/13/14

Budweiser Racing Team Notes of Interest:

• Kevin Harvick and the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet SS team finished 30th in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301 after a late-race caution pushed the event past the scheduled distance and Harvick’s car ran out of fuel coming to the green flag for the final restart at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

• Harvick started the race from the 12th position and cracked the top 10 for the first time at lap 37. The team pitted under green-flag conditions at lap 74 for four tires, fuel and a small chassis adjustment. Once the field cycled through green-flag pit stops, Harvick was scored in the sixth position.

• On the next two trips to pit road, crew chief Rodney Childers called for two-tire stops. The team took right-side tires at lap 113 and changed left-side tires at lap 154.

• Harvick radioed to the team that the car was loose on entry and was “not good on two tires,” so Childers called him down pit road under caution at lap 178 for four tires and fuel. Many of the lead lap cars opted not to pit, which put Harvick 19th on the lap 181 restart.

• He gained only three spots before the caution flag waved again at lap 211. Noting the team needed to gain track position, Childers called for right-side tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment when the No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet hit pit road. He instructed Harvick to save all the fuel he could and the No. 4 car lined up eighth when the field took the green flag at lap 218.

• The team elected to stay out while some teams pitted under the lap 249 caution and Harvick restarted in the third position at lap 253. He fell back to sixth when the field went back to green, but worked his way back up to fourth by lap 262.

• The caution flag waved again at lap 298, pushing the race past the scheduled distance. The No. 11 team elected to pit during the caution period and the No. 24 car ran out of fuel, moving Harvick up to second for the lap 303 green-white-checkered restart.

• The No. 4 Budweiser Chevrolet ran out of fuel as the field came to the green flag. Harvick coasted back around to pit road and finished 30th, one lap down to the leader.

• Brad Keselowski scored the win in Sunday’s race. Kyle Busch, Kyle Larson, Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman completed the top-five positions.

• Jeff Gordon continues to lead the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings following the race at New Hampshire. Dale Earnhardt Jr., Keselowski, Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson round out the top-five spots. Harvick dropped two spots to 13th.

The following is the finishing position of the other SHR teams in Sunday's race:

• Tony Stewart and the No. 14 Mobile 1 Chevrolet team finished seventh.

• Kurt Busch and the No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet team finished 17th.

• Danica Patrick and the No. 10 GoDaddy Chevrolet team finished 22nd.
