Race 30 of 33: Kansas Lottery 300 at Kansas Speedway

Track Specs: 1.5-mile oval / 200 laps

Weather: 60 degrees; mostly sunny

Race Winner: Kyle Busch

Harvick’s finish: 15th

Kevin Harvick and the No. 88 Armour Chili team rallied for a 15th-place finish after a late-race caution took the race into overtime, forcing a pit stop for fuel for the JR Motorsports (JRM) Chevrolet Camaro.

Harvick started in seventh position and stayed in the top 10 for a bulk of the race, running as high as third. However, the team battled handling issues that continued to worsen as the race wore on, especially on the short runs.

With just five laps to go, the veteran driver looked like he would hold on for an eighth-place finish, but the eighth caution of the afternoon came out, setting up a green-white-checkered finish that would send the race passed its scheduled 200 laps. Under the yellow, Harvick relayed concern that the Chevy was running out of fuel and would not make it to the end, so the call was made to come down pit road for four tires and a splash of gas.

Restarting in 17th, Harvick managed to pass two cars before the checkered flag waved, coming home with a 15th-place finish. Kyle Busch won the NASCAR XFINITY Series race, followed to the stripe by Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano, Ty Dillon and JRM driver Regan Smith.

Dave Elenz, crew chief No. 88 Armour Chili team

“It was a pretty disappointing day for our No. 88 Armour Chili team. We missed it on the setup. We were short. Our short run just was not there. It didn’t turn out the way we wanted it, but we’ll just have to go back and try to figure out what’s wrong and try to improve and move forward.”
