Elliott Sadler No. 2 Nationwide Series Advance: Michigan International Speedway

06/13/11

HEADING FOR THE IRISH HILLS: Elliott Sadler will make his seventh-career NASCAR Nationwide Series start at Michigan International Speedway as the series hits the track this weekend for the Alliance Truck Parts 250. Michigan has long been one of the Emporia, Va. native’s favorite tracks on the circuit. Sadler holds a best finish of seventh in his previous six Nationwide Series starts at the Brooklyn, Mich., facility. In the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Sadler has started in 24 events and complete 4,450 laps with a career-best finish of fifth in 2004 at the 2-mile D-shaped oval.

KHI LOOKING FOR MICHIGAN WIN: Michigan is one of only 17 tracks in which a Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) car has not won in the Nationwide Series. Team co-owner Kevin Harvick earned the highest-finishing position for the organization when he finished fifth in 2009. Sadler hopes to bring home his first win at the track and the first win for the organization.

TO THE POINT: Heading into this weekend at Michigan, Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial team sit second in the Driver’s Point standings. Sadler, who took the lead following his sixth-place finish at Dover International Speedway in May, sits only two points behind the leader with 20 races left in the season.

CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 2 OneMain Financial team will unload chassis No. 072 this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. Sadler most recently raced this chassis to a 10th-place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May. The team also competed with this vehicle at Texas Motor Speedway in April where Sadler finished in the fifth position.

PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: As the NASCAR Nationwide Series headed to the Windy City for the STP 300, Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 OneMain Financial team were in contention for the win before right-front tire issues spoiled the night. Sadler and the KHI team started the 200-lap event from the outside pole position and ended the race in the 11th place.

THOUGHTS FROM THE DRIVER: Elliott Sadler
How do you feel heading into next week’s race at Michigan International Speedway?
“I love going to Michigan. It is the manufacturers’ backyard, so there are a lot of bragging rights on the line when we head to Michigan. It’s a very wide track, with a huge sense of urgency. There are only 125 laps and 250 miles, so you have to qualify good to race good from start to finish. It’s a great race track. Fuel mileage is always important, track position is very important, and it is a great place to race.”
