Early-Race Accident Leaves Ron Hornaday With 34th-Place Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

11/07/11

FORT WORTH, Texas. (Nov. 6, 2011) — Ron Hornaday climbed behind the wheel of the No. 33 OneMain Financial Chevrolet on Friday night at Texas Motor Speedway for the WinStar World Casino 350k. Looking to gain further ground in the championship battle before the final race of the season, the four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion was making laps around the 1.5-mile track showing that the Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) team was the one to beat. Trouble hit the team, however, on lap 15 as Hornaday was caught up in an accident that relegated him to a 34th-place finish.

The veteran driver qualified for the event in the ninth position and just as quickly as the green flag waved, was on the move toward the front of the field. Hornaday powered his way up to the third position on lap 15 but as he drove the OneMain Financial Chevrolet into turn two, contact was made with the No. 18 truck of Kyle Busch. The heavily damaged vehicle was brought to the garage by the wrecker and unfortunately, the KHI team assessed that there was too much damage to return to the race.

Hornaday will head into the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway fourth in the driver’s points standings, 48 markers out of the lead position gunning to win his fifth Truck Series Championship and fifth win of the season. The season closer will make another milestone for the veteran’s career as he will make his 300th Truck Series start. Watch the action live on SPEED at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Nov. 18.
