Bowyer Captures Second-Place Finish in First Truck Series Start at Charlotte

05/22/11

CONCORD, N.C. (May 22, 2011) — Clint Bowyer returned to the driver’s seat of the No. 2 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Chevrolet Silverado for the N.C. Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway, the seventh event of the season for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Bowyer and the No. 2 Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) crew battled a loose-handling truck on their way to securing a solid second-place finish.

Bowyer jumped in the No. 2 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Chevrolet Silverado for his first Truck Series appearance at the 1.5-mile quad-oval starting the 134-lap contest in the second position.  Bowyer took over the lead on the first lap, but soon radioed that the truck was extremely loose.

The team made their first pit stop on lap 21 with crew chief Bruce Cook making the call to take two tires and fuel.  Bowyer radioed that the truck was still loose, but he was able to maintain a top-five position.

The No. 2 Ollie’s Bargain Outlet crew continued to work on the handling issues while keeping Bowyer in the top 10.  The crew made a second pit stop on lap 54 taking four tires, fuel and made minor chassis adjustments to the KHI machine.  Bowyer still fought the loose condition, but by the mid-point of the race he was able to pull back out front leading the field into the final laps, ultimately leading the most laps during the Friday night contest.

The team made a third and final pit stop on lap 77 taking fuel only.  As the laps wound down the No. 18 of Kyle Busch slowly began to creep up on Bowyer.  With eight laps remaining Busch was able to take over the lead, leaving Bowyer to cross the finish line second.

The Truck Series will be back on track Saturday, June 4 for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 250 at Kansas Speedway.  See the action live on SPEED at 1:00 p.m. CT.
