April 8th Deemed Ron Hornaday Day in Palmdale, California

04/07/10

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (April 7, 2010) —  The City of Palmdale California will honor four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion and Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) driver Ron Hornaday on Thursday, April 8th by renaming all access roads to the Antelope Valley Auto Center “Ron Hornaday Way.”

Hornaday, a former Palmdale resident, grew up in and around the small southern California city.  Not only will the city rename all the entrances around the Antelope Valley Auto Center “Ron Hornaday Way,” the city will also deem April 8th as Ron Hornaday day, presenting Hornaday a key to the city.

“I’m pretty excited about the whole deal, said Hornaday when asked about the event. “I always love going back home and to have five entrances named after you is really an honor.  I know there are quite a few people who have been trying to make this happen for a few years now so I just want to thank all of them.  I’ve made a great living as a race car driver and I owe a lot to Palmdale and the people there. Palmdale is where I met my wife and we had our kids, so it will always be home to [wife] Lindy and me.  I was just fortunate to get the call from Dale [Earnhardt] in 1995 and have the opportunity to move east. I have been very lucky to work for a lot of great people in this industry and had the privilege of helping some fellow Californian’s out.  It’s really cool that Kevin [Harvick] is from right down the road in Bakersfield and that now were an entire West Coast family at KHI on the East Coast.”

Current KHI General Manager, Truck Series spotter and former Truck Series rival, Rick Carelli believes that Hornaday is one of a kind.

“I think it’s really cool that Palmdale is honoring Ron,” said Carelli.  “Who would have ever thought that a kid who raced week in and week out at Saugus (Calf.) Speedway would move into one of NASCAR’s National Touring divisions and do as well as Ron has.  He absolutely deserves any accolades that are given to him.  I count Ron as one of the best drivers I know and he’s a pretty good friend too.”

KHI co-owner Kevin Harvick could not be more proud of his driver.

“Ron has had the opportunity to do a lot of things in his life,” said Harvick.  “He has raced with some of the greatest drivers, won championships and had a lot of fun along the way.  I’m really proud of Ron for his accomplishments and grateful for his friendship.  I’m glad that Palmdale is honoring him in such a fitting way.  He made lots of trips in and out of the Auto Center and now everyone will remember him for years to come.  It is a good way for Ron to leave a legacy in Palmdale.”

The street naming ceremony will begin at the Antelope Valley Auto Center at 1p.m., PST on April 8th.  The ceremony is open to the public.
