All-Star Win Has Harvick's
Team Wanting More
Crew chief Todd
Berrier said that Kevin Harvick's victory in Saturday's NASCAR Nextel
All-Star Challenge at Lowe's Motor Speedway gave his Richard Childress Racing
team a boost, especially since the victory came on a mile-and-a-half track.
Now, that has the team thinking about adding to that win in this weekend's
Coca-Cola 600 at the same venue.
Kevin Harvick won the season-opening Daytona 500, but he had not returned to
victory lane since that time. Berrier said his victory Saturday signaled a
turning point for the team.
"There is no doubt coming here and winning a race at Lowe's Motor Speedway
with [Jimmie Johnson] still in the race, racing you hard for the win, when
they have had such success here, it does give us a big boost," he said.
"Especially knowing these mile-and-a-half tracks have been tough for us, and
these tires are really, really hard, it is something that is hard to get a
handle on.
"So it is a big steppingstone for us to know we have made some right changes
and are doing a lot of things better than maybe we did at say, Las Vegas,
earlier in the year."
But while winning the non-points all-star race is nice, Berrier is aiming for
the points and momentum that comes from winning this week.
"I would also feel better if we were talking about it next Sunday in here
instead of tonight," Berrier said following the all-star win.
