Harvick's RCR team on the rise again
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Kevin Harvick,
currently eighth in the NASCAR Nextel Cup
standings, thinks his Richard Childress Racing
team is getting stronger every week. That could
make them even more of a threat when the Chase For
The Nextel Cup begins.
Harvick returns to Daytona International Speedway
after winning the season-opening Daytona 500 at
the track. Although he hasn't won a points race
since - Harvick did win the all-star race at
Lowe's Motor Speedway in May - he brings a streak
of three consecutive top-10 finishes into Saturday
night's race.
So how does he assess his season to date and his
chances to turn it into a championship effort?
"We've run very strong through the whole year, and
we've had a couple hiccups along the way at a
couple race tracks, but nothing crazy bad," he
said. "For the most part, we've been really good,
performance-wise, and we've just had a lot of
things go wrong. Hopefully, we've gotten all those
things out of the way. Our engines keep getting
better every week, and I know we have a plan
getting to the Chase of our engines being better
and having different packages and things like that
to choose from.
"So, it seems like we keep gaining momentum."
Harvick says that it's been tough to keep up with
everything this year, a season in which teams have
switched between the standard car and NASCAR's new
car of tomorrow week to week. Teams are testing
more in an effort to explore the new model and
discover how to make it run fast.
While that's been tough to maintain, Harvick says
things are heading in the right direction with his
team.
