Chevrolet Continues Partnership with Richard
Childress Racing For 2008 and Beyond
BROOKLYN, MI (Aug. 18, 2007) Chevrolet, the
winningest nameplate in NASCAR, will continue its
partnership in NASCAR competition in 2008 with one
of racing’s elite organizations, Richard Childress
Racing (RCR).
“2008 marks Richard Childress’s 39th year as a
team owner and his cars proudly carry the Chevy
bowtie,” said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager.
“At Chevrolet and GM Racing, we are very excited
to continue a long and successful relationship
with one of the best racing organizations in
NASCAR, both on and off the track.”
Richard Childress Racing has earned more than 160
victories and 10 NASCAR championships, including
six in the NEXTEL Cup Series with the legendary
Dale Earnhardt. It was the first organization to
win championships in the NEXTEL Cup Series, Busch
Series and Truck Series. Its 2007 NEXTEL Cup
Series lineup includes Kevin Harvick (No. 29
Shell-Pennzoil), Jeff Burton (No. 31 AT&T) and
Clint Bowyer (No. 07 Jack Daniel’s). Its Busch
Series lineup includes Harvick and Tim McCreadie
(No. 21 AutoZone), Burton and Scott Wimmer (No. 29
Holiday Inn) and Bowyer (No. 2 BB&T).
“This is a racing organization that invests in
quality drivers and is dedicated to winning,” said
Peper. “Today all three of RCR’s drivers are in a
position to compete in the Chase for the NEXTEL
Cup.”
“Chevrolet’s long-term relationship with RCR is as
much about family as it is a business
partnership,” said Richard Childress, president
and CEO of Richard Childress Racing. “I raced
Chevys for nearly my entire driving career and
they have been a part of every one of RCR’s
victories since 1983. All of us at RCR are very
proud to continue our association with Chevrolet
for years to come.”
Chevrolet has over 600 wins in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
competition, more than any other manufacturer.
Team Chevy drivers have won 17 of 22 NASCAR NEXTEL
Cup races in 2007 giving Chevy the lead in the
Manufacturer Cup standings. Currently Chevy
drivers hold nine of the top 12 spots in the
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series standings.
