Kevin's Diary
Entry:
Montreal/Pocono
Weekend
Double duty is one thing. Double duty in two countries? That
was pretty wild. But, we made it work though!
I was really impressed with Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. I love
road-course racing, and that racetrack definitely had its
share of challenges. Fortunately for me, I had a pretty decent
racecar and that made my first time on that track a little
easier. Shane Wilson and the 21 crew were simply awesome on
Saturday. We may not have had the fastest car, but we were
there when it counted -- the end.
Leaving the racetrack that night with Richard and DeLana, we
were talking about having moved into the 30 Busch Series
wins-bracket and what big accomplishment that truly is. I am
proud of what my teams and I have been able to do in that
series, and I truly enjoy the competition. I remember every
one of my wins, and celebrating in victory lane never gets
old! I'm not sure that I'll be able to touch Mark Martin's win
count in the Busch Series, but I'll sure give it a heck of a
try!
Sunday in Pocono, well, it was what it was. It was one of
those races where it didn't seem to matter what we threw at
the car, the car threw it right back. It made for a long,
frustrating afternoon, but we all kept at it. We are a great
team, and to have the 29 guys in my corner, means a lot. We
may not always win, or get the finishes we want, but we never
give up.
It has been ridiculously hot in NC this week. Thank goodness
for two things: AC and pools. I hope you all are staying cool!

Diary Entry: Montreal/Pocono Weekend
Travel is a way of life when you're married to a racecar
driver, and I've gotten accustomed to being away from home
much more than being at home. Being in my seventh year of
traveling fulltime with Kevin, I've pretty much got every
route to every track down by heart. So, when we get to go
somewhere new - like Montreal this past weekend - it always
makes for an interesting weekend. From what I could see, the
city is really pretty. Even the racetrack was beautiful. My
favorite view of all was from victory lane, of course.
"The Rons" (Ron Hornaday, No. 77 and Ron Fellows, No. 33) were
just awesome on Saturday. Even though I can't be disappointed
with who won the Busch Series race, I thought for sure it
could have been a KHI car. I kicked our pit box so hard when I
realized both of our KHI cars were caught up in the wreck, I
thought I broke my foot! I got to victory lane and Kevin said,
“What do you think about this?” (referring to his win) and all
I could say was, “You wrecked both my cars!” If a KHI car
couldn’t win, I was glad it was Kevin.
Fellows was really good in every practice and he is an
incredible road-course racer . Hornaday is fired up to win a
Busch Series race for us, and if races were won on enthusiasm
alone...it would have been his. Both of those cars came back
with a bunch of battle scars, and - considering that - I am
really happy with their finishes. That's the nature of
road-course racing. It takes more than having the best car;
you have to be in the right place at the right time.
Kevin and I both thought that he was going to have a little
bit more for Pocono on Sunday. When you're having a rough day,
that is just a long, long race. I was proud of Kevin, though.
I would have been a lot more frustrated than he was!
I'm looking forward to this weekend. Hornaday will be in
action at Nashville, and as close as he came last year, it
should be an exciting race to watch. Cale Gale will be
competing in the ARCA race at Nashville this weekend. He’s
come awfully close in his last two ARCA starts. Maybe the
third time will be the charm. And with Bobby Labonte and Ron
Fellows driving our KHI cars at Watkins Glen, it's shaping up
to be a fun weekend of racing for me!
