  Kevin's Diaries
Hello everyone,

The last four months have gone by so fast. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting in Daytona during Speedweeks thinking about how my Nationwide and Sprint Cup teams would fare this season. Having the new car in the Sprint Cup Series full time in 2008 is going to be a challenge not only for myself, but for every driver in the series. Looking back at the first eight races, I feel like RCR as a whole is in a good position for another strong year. I also feel good about the gains we’ve made with our Nationwide program and I am hopeful once the trucks get going that KHI will have another strong year.

Two weeks ago we were in Phoenix for the Nationwide and Sprint Cup races. The weekend started off on a good note as I drove the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet to a fourth-place finish in the Nationwide Series event. The Cup race didn’t go as planned. We ran out of fuel with a few laps to go and had to make a pit stop. We finished 19th and fell to fifth in the point standings.

On Tuesday, it was off on vacation as DeLana and I took a nice relaxing break since the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series had an off weekend. It was pretty awesome just to get away from the track and spend some quality time with DeLana.

DeLana and I got back in time to watch the Nationwide race in Mexico City as Ron Hornaday jumped behind the wheel of the No. 33 KHI Chevrolet. It just wasn’t our day. Ron was running 15th with 11 laps to go, when he radioed to the team that the right front tire had blown, pushing the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet back to the 32nd position. It was definitely a disappointing day.

I am really looking forward to this upcoming weekend. On Thursday I will be making an appearance at a Shell Tension Leg Platform in the Gulf Coast. It is going to be pretty neat because I will fly to New Orleans then jump onto a helicopter and travel 165 miles out into the ocean to visit the oil rig. This is a great chance for me to visit Shell employees before heading to Talladega Superspeedway.

Cale Gale will pilot the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet for KHI on Saturday in the Nationwide Series race at Talladega. I am only going to run the Sprint Cup race this weekend, but will have a lot to do with the Nationwide race. This will be Cale’s first Nationwide race there so I will sit a top the pit box and keep an eye on everything. Cale, whose is from Mobile, Alabama, should have a pretty good fan base behind him come Saturday.

Going into Sunday I feel really good about our chances. I have always liked racing at Talladega and I feel like we haven’t always had the finishes that really show just how good we’ve actually run. So, I’m hoping this weekend will be different.

I’m also glad that the trucks will be back in action this weekend in Kansas. They have had a few weeks off, so I know Ron and Jack are ready to go. I’ll be anxiously tuning in just like you guys to see how the No. 33 and No. 2 KHI trucks perform.

Have a great week!
