Hello everyone,
As I sit here in my motorhome during Daytona testing, I keep reminiscing
about the 2007 season and thinking of what 2008 has in store. If someone
would have told me at the beginning of the 2007 season that I would win the
Daytona 500, NASCAR Sprint All-Star race, qualify for my second straight
Chase and bring our first NASCAR Truck Series title to Kevin Harvick Inc., I
would say what more could you ask for!
But looking back now, I think we can do better in 2008. As NASCAR Sprint Cup
testing concludes, I feel we accomplished what we wanted to do during this
three day test session. We came down
here with kind of a specific plan and that was to work with the engine and
the handling of the car, not speed. Todd and the
guys back at the shop have put in long hard hours during the off-season and I
think it is paying off.
Starting on Friday I will jump behind the wheel of the No. 33 Kevin Harvick
Inc. (KHI) Chevrolet for the first day of NASCAR Nationwide testing. This
will begin a new chapter of my racing career as I will only compete for KHI
in 22 of the 35 Nationwide Series races, which begins in just a few weeks as
I look for my second straight season-opening win at Daytona in the Camping
World 300. By the way, I will be driving the No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet!
This season I want to have fun driving for KHI in the Nationwide Series.
DeLana and I built KHI to be competitive but have fun at the same time. I
really benefit from being at the shop and hanging around the race cars. You
try your best to put all the right people in the right places so you can
begin to build chemistry, which eventually brings championships.
When it comes to the NASCAR Truck Series, KHI will have a new look fielding
two full-time teams with three-time Truck Series champions Ron Hornaday and
Jack Sprague piloting each. With six championships combined, DeLana and I
feel this could be KHI’s best season yet.
As most of you know there really isn’t an off-season in NASCAR. DeLana and I
did some extreme cleaning and repairs to KHI. We put a brand new surface
down in the shop and some other things including painting, building another
building and knocking down walls to give the guys more room to work. Despite
my birthday, Christmas and New Years, all the other time was spent on my
go-karts. We raced just about every weekend at my house. We usually have
about 10 guys that come over every weekend and race. We started doing this a
couple years ago and now it has turned into something addictive. When I am
in my go-kart, racing around my track, I get in this comfort zone, which is
something all race cars drivers like to do.
Thanks again and look forward to talking to everyone soon.
