Team notes: Cup tour's engines idle for off weekend
USA Today | March 19, 2007

Kevin Harvick, No. 29 Chevrolet, Richard Childress Racing

This week: Harvick has no wins in the first five races but has two top-five and four top-10 finishes. While his Kevin Harvick Inc. team will be racing in Saturday's Nationwide race at Nashville, Harvick and his wife, DeLana, are taking the Easter weekend off. "They will keep us informed as to what going on," Harvick said. "We will be at home, relaxing and just kind of taking it all in. This year on the Cup side, we have had so much work to do as far as testing and other things, this off week is timed at a really good point for not only myself but the race teams and everybody involved in our sport to really relax and take advantage of the off week. Before, the third week of the season, you weren't really ready for an off week. With all the stuff we have had going on this year, it comes at a perfect time."

Last week: Harvick finished second at Bristol but after bumping the leader, Tony Stewart, out of the way at the end, he spent much of the post-race fending off questions about the incident. "I just lost it getting into Tony," Harvick said. "They can take it for what it is worth and move on. I got down on the apron, lost the car, got inside of Tony and that was pretty much the end of it. It was mine to lose at that point and I lost it. I got up under there with one or two laps to go; got up on the apron and lost the thing. I was trying to get all I could."

Etc.: While there is so much talk about whether NASCAR has lost its core fan, Harvick doesn't believe that is the case. "There are still a lot of people here that have watched these races for a long time," he said. "There are a lot of owners here that have watched these races for a long time. Right now, I think everybody is doing a good job. The consistency of the product that we have on the race track and around the garage are pretty stable, and I think that is what everybody is looking for."
